Boarding

Horses are magnificent creatures and our goal is to care for them as well as possible.  This means a well designed and planned facility; quality food; and attentive care.  The facility was designed to allow light, air and generous proportions to create a comfortable restful environment for our horses.  First, we started with an 8 pitch roof and three working cupolas to allow hot and stale air to escape from the building.  The ceiling is open from the stall floors up, there is no hay stored above allowing for greater air circulation, less dust and reducing the fire hazards of hay.  We then added windows – everywhere from the stalls to the sliding doors on the aisle ways to sun sky panels in the roof.  Each stall is 12 x 14 feet has a Dutch door which we try to keep open as much as possible – adding to good ventilation and a nice entertaining feature for the horse.

We then built a separate indoor riding arena.  The indoor is a generous 80 feet by 200 feet and is a steel structure with a fabric covering.  There is so much light passing through the fabric, we hardly need the lights!  We consciously separated the indoor from the stall barn to keep the noise and fine particles generated by working in the indoor away from the horses resting in the barn.   Separating the buildings was another good way to minimize fire hazards.  Our outdoor arena is large (120 by 200 feet) with beautiful footing; it is regularly maintained.

We feed a customized program according to your horse's individual needs. Horses are given hay several times daily allowing them to have something to munch on constantly. Supplements and specialty hay products are supplied by the owner, but fed by us daily.  Bran mash is given every Sunday night.

A happy, healthy horse needs turnout. At Sweet Water Farm horses are turned out every day (weather and footing permitting) for several hours. Our turnout paddocks are three-board with electric.  We have seven sand paddocks and seven grass paddocks.  Our farm is adjacent to trails and generous neighbors who let us ride through their farms.
